In an interview to Tennis Magazin, disclosed his regret about the 2018 season where he won Munich, Madrid, Washington and ATP Finals titles. The French Open, admitted Zverev.
I felt I was the best player with for the entire clay-court season. We split the tournament wins a little bit each other. Thats why I felt I was on the right path for the French Open.
Then I got injured in the quarter-finals, unfortunately! It was disappointing at a time where I was finally playing well in Grand Slams. Honestly, I also had in my mind the Rome final against Nadal, that was so close. For a while, I hoped I would have a similar match in Paris against a good player like Dominic Thiem.
In that tournament, Zverev lost to Thiem in his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final, and he was influenced by a groin injury. On his plans for 2019, Zverev added: I am not still pretty sure about my schedule. But I will play the Munich Open and Gerry Weber Open in Halle.
Masters tournaments are mandatory. But I won most of the matches not because I play a tournament every week. I pick well when to play where and in 2019 it will be similar. Zverev is recovering from an ankle injury he has been suffering since before the Australian Open.
He was forced to withdraw from the Rotterdam Open earlier this month, and as he said before the Acapulco Open, he is not at 100% yet.
