Odell Beckham Jr. out left. Jarvis Landry to his right. Nick Chubb awaiting behind him. David Njoku ready to cross the middle.
Yeah, Baker Mayfield is pumped.
While everyone else’s jaws were dropped, the Browns quarterback’s lips were sealed. He needed only that emoji and a picture — of himself, Beckham and Landry together before they would become teammates — to convey his emotions Tuesday, in the aftermath of the stunning trade that nets the Giants a first- and third-round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers.
Cleveland is coming off a 7-8-1 season, which was six more wins than it had piled up in the past two seasons. But it also was a season of hope, one in which Mayfield set a rookie record with 27 touchdown passes. He figures to top that next year.
Beckham and Landy have been longtime friends, all the way back to high school. They went to LSU and have talked about playing together again — which will now happen, with Mayfield’s blessing and with Giants fans’ anger.
