It’s still up in the air as to who will become the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential candidate, but Cardi B has made it clear that she’s still supporting her favorite guy: Senator Bernie Sanders.
During a recent red carpet interview, Cardi was asked, “Who are you supporting in 2020?” to which she responded, “I don’t know. I’mma always go with Bernie. Because here’s the thing, Bernie don’t say things to be cool. There’s pictures of him being an activist from a very, very, very long time.”
It is true that Sanders has long been a civil-rights activist: He attended the 1963 March on Washington, led sit-ins, and was photographed protesting school segregation in Chicago.
But this also wasn’t the first time Cardi spoke about Sanders. Before the 2016 election, Cardi told her followers to “Vote for Daddy Bernie, bitch.”
And once, after Cardi spoke about her love for Franklin Delano Roosevelt and how he created Social Security, Sanders thanked her on Twitter “for calling attention to the importance of Social Security.” He wrote, “Cardi B is right. If we are really going to make America great we need to strengthen Social Security so that seniors are able to retire with the dignity they deserve.”
During the red carpet interview, Cardi also said she was watching the news and caught a speech from presidential primary candidate Tim Ryan, which she said was “very convincing” and that he “really wants to give the United States free healthcare.”
She was also asked what she would say if she could text anything to Trump, to which she said, “I hate him. I just hate him.”
