The Clare management have revealed that Conor Ryan – an All-Star winning midfielder in 2013 – will not be playing in 2017 due to injury, but he will stay involved in the Banner setup and will take on a role in the backroom as part of their analysis team.
But David McInerney – full-back on the All-Star team in 2013 – returned to training last night after flying back to Ireland last week after spending some time travelling.
McInerney had his injury problems in 2016 with a back complaint but the Tulla player is now available again after missing Clare’s opening league encounters with the loss to Cork and the victory over Kilkenny.
The announcement about Ryan’s decision was made on the Club Clare Hurling Supporters website, where it was stated that Ryan will remain ‘an integral part of the group’ this year.
The Cratloe club man – a county senior football and hurling winner in 2014 – has been hampered by injury in recent seasons with a calf injury proving particularly troublesome in 2016.
