Talk about a stunning — and painful — way to end your season.
Jets tight end Eric Tomlinson required surgery after dropping a weight on his foot during a post-practice workout Wednesday and lacerating two toes.
Tomlinson was placed on injured reserve Thursday, with the team signing tight end Clive Walford to replace him on the roster. Walford was with the Jets in training camp.
Tomlinson, 26, had eight catches for 72 yards in 15 games, along with six tackles.
Trumaine Johnson returns to Jets after mystery incident
Wednesday’s benching still remains a mystery, but high-priced cornerback Trumaine…
CB Morris Claiborne may miss Sunday’s game due to shoulder and ankle injuries. He has appeared in all 15 games so far this season, but has yet to practice this week.
“If he doesn’t do anything [Friday, he’s] probably [out],” Bowles said.
The Jets have been working out kickers this week in case Jason Myers can’t go because of a left hip injury.
Other Jets who didn’t practice on Thursday include WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle), WR Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) and LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder). LB Jordan Jenkins (ankle) was limited for a second straight day. DT Mike Pennel (tooth) was a full participant on Thursday after not practicing on Wednesday.
The Jets allowed 215 rushing yards in their 27-13 loss to the Patriots on Nov. 25. So yes, they need to do a better job in that area.
“They ripped us a new one, no doubt,” defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said. “From my standpoint, I felt like we should be embarrassed. It was just really unacceptable.”
