According to a report by Forbes wrestling writer Blake Ostreicher, RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will build toward a bigger feud than Ronda Rousey in the future, and it involves a familiar face that is inserted in virtually every advancement for the women’s division with WWE.
Citing the sometimes reliable Wrestling Observer newsletter from February, WWE reportedly wants Lynch and Stephanie McMahon to continue their fireworks for a potential match at SummerSlam. PWMania added this week, “you can expect Stephanie to continue to get involved in Lynch’s affairs as the WWE creative team still has plans for them to feud after WrestleMania.”
As Ostreicher’s report points out, though Lynch is obviously in favor with management in WWE, it could be argued that the face of the women in WWE is Stephanie McMahon. Ostreicher goes on to cite a report from Dave Meltzer that McMahon’s feud with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 34 was less about trying to win over new fans for Rousey than it was to help McMahon get over with more of a mainstream audience by involving the former Olympic and UFC Champion. Obviously, that line of thinking was only reinforced by having McMahon inserted with the rest of “The Authority” in trying to place obstacles in front of Lynch on her path to WrestleMania 35.
The good news for fans of Lynch is that she is clearly a priority for the company if these reports are true and she will be getting an extended feud with Stephanie and the McMahon family. This will inevitably lead to more unfortunate comparisons to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, but it appears Lynch is like the Texas Rattlesnake in at least one way: she’s appear set to continue growing her legend against her boss.
