Tony Romo got to his first Super Bowl on Sunday night by way of the broadcast booth after wowing viewers in the AFC Championship, when he correctly predicted a number of plays before they happened, especially in crunch time.

For an encore?

Romo played less of a spoiler, staying away from calling specific plays for the most part, but still hit on most of the predictions he made.

Romo finished the night 6-for-7 with one 50-50 call mixed in.

First quarter:

NE ball: fourth-and-5, LA 28

Romo’s prediction: (After Jim Nantz pointed out that no kicker had missed a field goal all year at Mercedes-Benz Stadium) “Did you do it to him again?”

Verdict: Right. This wasn’t quite the prediction that Romo continually nailed two weeks ago, but he was on point again by calling Nantz’s jinx. Stephen Gostkowski’s 46-yard field goal kick sailed wide left.

Second quarter:

NE ball: first-and-10, NE 41

Romo’s prediction: “If you can run the ball, you hand it off right here.”

Verdict: Wrong. Instead of handing it off, Brady threw a screen pass to James White that fell incomplete.

LA ball: third-and-2, LA 26

Romo’s prediction: “Now you’re snapping really quick. Hand the ball off or throw a slant quickly.”

Verdict: Right. The Rams didn’t hand it off, but Robert Woods did run a slant, though he couldn’t come up with the catch.

Third quarter:

NE ball: third-and-4, NE 14

Romo’s prediction: “They gotta double Edelman. When he motions, someone has to help.”

Verdict: Romo was right, but the Rams didn’t listen to him. Edelman motioned to the left and then went out to catch a short pass, covered only by Marcus Peters, and turned it into a 27-yard gain.

LA ball: third-and-6, NE 47

Romo’s prediction: “Time to stand in, slide in the pocket and make a big throw for Goff.”

Verdict: Right. Jared Goff faced pressure from the Patriots and even got hit by Trey Flowers, but not before stepping up and converting an 18-yard pass to Woods for a first down.

Fourth quarter:

NE ball: first-and-10, NE 31

Romo’s prediction: “Oh, you gotta watch out for a double move here or Gronk up the seam or a running back down the sideline.”

Verdict: Well, Rob Gronkowski ran a seam but Brady went to Edelman across the middle for a 13-yard completion. The Patriots then appeared to run the same play on the next two snaps for two more completions, the second coming on a seam to Gronkowski that brought the Patriots to the Rams’ 2-yard line.

LA ball: first-and-10, LA 25

Romo’s prediction: “This is where you can come up with something new, some kind of new play-action, something they haven’t seen that can get you going and start this right now.”

Verdict: Right. Jared Goff sold the play-action and threw a screen pass to Brandin Cooks, who picked up 19 yards.

NE ball: second-and-7, NE 41

Romo’s prediction: “This should be a run to make them use their final timeout.”

Verdict: Right. Rex Burkhead took the handoff and burst through the line for a 26-yard gain to prolong the Patriots’ game-clinching drive.
