Adam Gase is turning a blind eye to his first Jets controversy.
The new Jets head coach was mercilessly mocked in his opening press conference on Monday for his bulging eyes that set the internet aflame. Gase was asked about the various memes later that day on the “Michael Kay Show” and pleaded ignorance. He was still doing so Thursday and had a message for those preoccupied with it.
“I don’t have Twitter, Instagram, I don’t read the internet, I don’t watch TV,” Gase said on ESPN Radio’s “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” on Wednesday, via Yahoo. “All that stuff is irrelevant to me. To me it’s pollution of the brain. I really don’t care.”
Gase said the Jets haven’t spoken with him about his introductory appearance. Le Batard asked Gase if he thought he “won the press conference.”
“I don’t care. Did we win any games because of it?” Gase said. “Then nobody cares.”
Gase showcased a sense of humor when Le Batard offered to send him the video of Gase’s eyes following an animated taco, with the coach contradicting himself by quoting a years-old internet joke.
“No! I don’t want it. I don’t want it,” Gase said with a hint of laughter. “Don’t need it. I’ll give you a Jay Cutler on that one: ‘Don’t care.’”
