OREM, Utah — North Dakota State University 184-pound junior Hayden Zillmer (Crosby, Minn./Crosby HS) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance on the mat last week. The conference award was announced Tuesday by the conference.

Zillmer compiled a 3-0 record in dual matches at No. 10 Virginia, against Gardner-Webb and No. 12 Virginia Tech on Nov. 15-16. He opened opened the weekend with a 7-1 decision over Virginia’s Billy Coggins. On Sunday, Zillmer posted a 19-4 tech fall over Gardner-Webb’s Gray Jones, and then defeated Virginia Tech’s Austin Gabel 3-1. The Bison junior improved to 11-1 on the season and has won eight straight matches since his overtime loss to nationally-ranked Blake Stauffer of Arizona State.

Zillmer entered the weekend ranked 13th by InterMat in his weight class.

The 25th-ranked NDSU Bison went 1-2 in the duals with a 38-8 victory over Gardner-Webb, a 20-15 loss to No. 10 Virginia and a 33-7 setback to No. 12 Virginia Tech.

The conference honor is Zillmer’s first of the season and first of his career.

The Western Wrestling Conference, which is in its ninth year of competition, is comprised of six schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
