RUNNERS ENCOURAGED TO BRING ALONG THEIR DOGS TO GET FIT AND HAVE FUN WITH NEW CANINE ACTIVITY, CANICROSS

With 8.5 million dogs in the UK and around 10.5 million runners, the Kennel Club has added canicross to its recognised list of canine activities, to help both dog and owner keep fit and have fun together through running.

The Kennel Club is offering running clubs across the country the opportunity to sign up and to offer canicross to members who are interested in running with their dog, with a discount on offer to clubs which sign up by the end of the year.

In order to take part in canicross, an owner wears a waist-belt which attaches via a two metre bungee line to the dog’s harness. Both owner and dog run, with the dog taking the front spot from start to the finish.

Anyone can take part in the activity, no matter what their fitness level, and any breed of dog can join in. It also has other benefits such as making new friends for both owner and dog and creating a special bond between them.

Running clubs which offer canicross will become listed status clubs with the Kennel Club and therefore be able to hold official canicross events (competitions and training classes) across the country and receive promotion through the Kennel Club website.

Full details about the new activity can be found on the Kennel Club website.
