THERE WERE WINS for DCU, IT Carlow and UCD in the opening round of Fitzgibbon Cup action tonight.
Deise senior Patrick Curran found the net as DCU enjoyed a 1-14 to 0-10 victory over Waterford IT at the DCU Sportsgrounds.
The Dublin college boasted plenty of inter-county talent, with Waterford’s Curran and Peter Hogan in the side, along with Paudie Foley of Wexford and Dublin’s Eoghan O’Donnell.

DCU let by 1-7 to 0-7 at the interval never looked like losing with Gavin Bailey, Killian Doyle and Joe O’Connor among the scorers in the second-half.
DJ Foran scored 0-10 as UCD ran out 0-21 to 0-13 winners over Maynooth University in their clash this evening.
A strong UCD side featured Foran, Tadhg de Burca (both Waterf0rd), Cillian Buckley, James Maher (both Kilkenny), Colm Cronin, Oisin O’Rourke (both Dublin), while Kilkenny’s Padraig Walsh and Galway’s Brian Molloy,who scored six points, played for Maynooth.

UCD found themselves nine points up at the break and had enough in the tank to ease home.
Finally, IT Carlow comfortably accounted for DIT on a scoreline of 4-18 to 1-15.
Chris Bolger bagged two goals for ITC, while Michael Redmond and James Doyle added a goal apiece.
Kevin Kelly (Kilkenny), Charles Dwyer, Stephen Maher (both Laois) and Martin Kavanagh (Carlow) lined out for the Carlow outfit, while Tommy Doyle, Robbie Greville, Derek McNicholas of Westmeath and Wexford’s Jack Guiney were on the losing DIT team.
