There was admiration and advice.
That’s how Patrick Mahomes described his postgame chat with Tom Brady following the classic AFC Championship game when Brady sought him out behind closed doors.
“I think it was a little bit of both,” Mahomes said to ESPN analyst and ex-Patriot Tedy Bruschi in Orlando during Pro Bowl festivities. “It was such a great game with so many emotions where it was going back and forth at the end. He just came up to me and was kind of giving me — saying, ‘Good game,’ and everything like that.”
After the Patriots’ 37-31 overtime triumph over the Chiefs, Brady asked a security guard to take him to Mahomes because the two did not have a chance to talk on the field.
“I mean, he was in my place,” Mahomes said. “He was young. He got to win the Super Bowl in his [second] year with you [Bruschi] and everybody, so he understands that time flies by and [told me] to make sure to put in the work. And I think he saw that I’ve put in the work to be in those situations.”
Perhaps one day soon the electric signal-caller will be in Brady’s shoes in a week like this: Preparing to play in a Super Bowl.
