Kirk Cousins had to see it coming.

The Vikings quarterback tried to offer up some goodwill Tuesday by asking in a tweet what Vikings fans wanted him to give away. The options were a signed jersey, a signed football, a signed mini-helmet or — and this was his mistake — other.

Fans went right for the jugular, with many tweeting back that Cousins’ giveaway should be his contract — the massive three-year, $84 million-guaranteed deal he signed last year.

Cousins did not do much to endear the fanbase with his play in his first season in Minnesota. A year after they went to the NFC Championship without him, the Vikings finished 8-7-1 with Cousins under center. The former Redskins QB threw a career-high 30 touchdowns but also had 10 interceptions and nine fumbles.

Samples of the responses to his tweet were not kind:

“Giveaway anything but the ball”

“How about you give the Vikings back $33 mil”

“Your contract”

“Give yourself away to another team!”

“Some of that CAP SPACE”

Or, the most prescient: “This is not gonna end well for you.”
