He was fired up.

WFAN host Joe Benigno expressed anger at the Adam Gase hiring, showing little faith Thursday morning on air in the former Dolphins coach who was fired by the team with a losing record after three seasons.

“History tells you they got it wrong,” he said.

“Three or four years from now, maybe sooner, why would I not think we will be here in the same position, looking for a new coach? Except this time we’ll be looking for a new general manager.”

Gase, who has been known as a quarterback whisperer of sorts, is a polarizing candidate. He holds a 23-25 record as a head coach, but some feel he did a decent job with a limited roster (and quarterback) in Miami.

Still, some feel the Jets could have hired a better candidate.

“What’s made this worse, is that usually when the Jets and Giants have a coach opening, we always lament there’s not really any great candidates, there isn’t any slam dunk,” Benigno’s co-host Evan Roberts said. “You had a guy [Mike McCarthy] who won a Super Bowl, who developed Aaron Rodgers, who wanted this job.”

Roberts and Benigno continued to doubt Gase, calling him Peyton Manning’s “coffee boy” and diminishing his 5-1 record against the Jets.

Ultimately they opined the Jets’ problems may be coming from above.

“What this team needs is a new owner, because the owners are horrific,” Benigno said. “They had a terrible owner for years with Leon Hess, they have terrible ownership now with the Johnson brothers. And that’s the problem with this franchise — they listen to the wrong people.”
