Easily one of the most controversial aspects of WWE’s upcoming Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view is the fact that the show will feature no female competitors at all. During a recent edition of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler’s Dinner With the King podcast, Lawler interviewed Jim Cornette. With WWE set to receive a hefty amount of money from the Saudi Arabia Sports Authority for the event tomorrow, Cornette suggested that WWE’s female stars receive a “heck of a payoff” for having to miss the show. Lawler responded by saying “I think that’s exactly what’s happening,” leading some to believe that WWE’s female stars will be compensated for being left off of the show tomorrow.
With plenty of spots still open in WWE’s upcoming 50-man Royal Rumble match, a lot of fans have been hopeful that perhaps Dean Ambrose could make a surprise return during the match tomorrow. PWInsider did recently state that Ambrose was in Birmingham to have his triceps injury examined, and the latest Wrestling Observer Live show has just reported that Ambrose is back gone back to training again while also rehabbing his injury. It certainly seems possible now that Ambrose could be returning to the ring much sooner than originally expected, however, it was noted during the show that Ambrose is not currently cleared to return to the ring and he will not be appearing at The Greatest Royal Rumble event tomorrow.
Monday Night Raw from earlier this week concluded with Mickie James savagely injuring Natalya’s leg. Unfortunately for James, this brought out Ronda Rousey, who then proceeded to save her best friend and pro wrestling trainer after locking James in a viscous armbar until she tapped out. Ronda Rousey has only competed in one match ever since crossing over from MMA to WWE, but it looks like this incident from Monday may lead to Rousey’s second official WWE match. The latest Wrestling Observer Radio has reported that WWE will likely be adding Ronda Rousey vs. Mickie James to the Backlash card. Expect for WWE to officially announce the match for the show very soon.
